Drones Era is an independent review and field-testing operation built by three commercial UAV operators who got tired of sponsored listicles and spec-sheet regurgitation. We buy our own drones. We fly them in real conditions. We publish what actually works — and what doesn’t.

Editor
Ten years in commercial drone operations — mapping, inspections, and aerial cinematography for real estate and infrastructure clients. Holds an FAA Part 107 certificate and a Canadian Advanced Operations permit. Spent the last two years flying sub-250g platforms for review and writing the kind of long-form content that doesn’t fit in a YouTube short.

Cinematography Lead
FPV pilot and colorist with a background in broadcast television and feature documentary. Owns every cinema drone Autel, DJI, and Skydio have shipped in the last four years. Writes the LUT guides and the cinematography deep dives — and will not let a piece ship until the grade actually holds up in the highlights.
Regulations Editor
Former air traffic controller turned UAV compliance writer. Tracks the FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, and CASA rulemaking with the same intensity most people reserve for sports. The reason every regulations piece on Drones Era cites the actual Part 107 sub-paragraph instead of a summary.
How we work.
Independence, period.
We pay for our own review units when we can. When a brand sends hardware, we disclose it on the page and keep the same scoring rubric. We don’t run sponsored posts. We don’t take affiliate kickbacks on review products. Affiliate links in buyer’s guides are flagged separately.
Test in real conditions.
Every drone we publish on gets a minimum of two weeks of real-world flying — not a weekend unboxing. We fly in coastal wind, in low light, in rain when the spec sheet allows it, and through every firmware update the vendor ships during the test window.
Show the work.
Every review includes the actual flight logs, the color-grading steps, the comparison test methodology, and the failures. We publish the gear that disappointed us. We name the features that didn’t ship. We update reviews when the situation changes.
No AI fluff.
Every piece on Drones Era is written by a human operator who has flown the gear. We use AI for transcription and image processing, never for prose. Our footer line is the editorial promise: built with field notes, not AI hype.
What we don’t do.
No sponsored listicles.
If a brand wants a paid placement, we’ll write the review honestly and tell you the piece was sponsored — but that means it doesn’t go in the editorial archive, and our scoring rubric still applies. We turn down most of these.
No regurgitated specs.
If a piece reads like the product page reformatted, we won’t publish it. The value of Drones Era is the field data, the side-by-side testing, and the operator’s perspective — not the spec sheet in a different font.
No affiliate hijacking.
Our buyer’s guides link to Amazon, B&H, and manufacturer direct. Affiliate disclosure is on every page where an affiliate link exists. We do not insert affiliate redirects into editorial content.
No fake urgency.
You will never see a countdown timer, a fake “only 3 left” badge, or a “limited time” overlay on Drones Era. We respect your time and your intelligence.
